AutomataCon is a gathering of those who enjoy or are curious about animated objects, both historical automata and present-day kinetic artworks. The three-day event is being hosted for the 4th time at the Morris Museum, Morristown, NJ., from May 17th – 19th, 2024.
Featured are a variety of presentations, live demonstrations, kinetic artists’ panels, crafts workshops, exhibits, etc.. Fun for all ages!
This privately run event will kick-off with a social reception on Friday evening, followed by two full days of programs. Convention attendees can pre-register for just one day or the entire weekend. Visitors to the Morris Museum who are not attending the convention will, subject to capacity limits, enjoy access to a range of automata programs. This includes the museum’s Courtyard with visiting automata exhibitors, artists, live demonstrations of kinetic artworks, the famed Guinness Gallery, and the Spark!Lab workshop where children can create their own automaton on Saturday. On view in the Main Gallery will be the exhibition, “Set in Motion: Kinetic World’s from the Studio of Richard Whitten”, where the artist will be present to discuss these works this weekend. Plus, our Hedley Gallery will feature an exhibit celebrating 20 years stewardship of the Murtogh D. Guinness Collection – “Like Clockwork! Guinness Collection Conservation at the Morris Museum”.
