If you happen to be coming to the Twin Cities for the Bill Nunn/Skyrock Farm auction on September 27th, you might find this event a nice break. Player Piano restorer and classic comedy film enthusiast Nate Otto is presenting “Not So Silent Movies” in his Anoka workshop on three upcoming weekends starting September 25th. The programs feature a silent cartoon and classic comedy… This year’s shows are encore screenings, with the September program featuring Walt Disney’s Oswald the Lucky Rabbit in SKY SCRAPPERS (1928) and Charlie Chaplin in PAY DAY (1922)! Doors open at 7:00 pm with a meet and greet session. At 7:20, Nate introduces the wonders of the 1916 American Fotoplayer, and then accompanies the films starting at 7:30. A Q&A session follows at 8:00 pm. RESERVATIONS ARE REQUIRED, so go to the eventbrite.com/e/1681412633449?aff=oddtdtcreator for all the information.

While there is no charge for admission, donations are encouraged and appreciated. A Venmo QR Code and Cash tip jar will be available at the guest table should you feel moved to contribute. The market value of the shows are $20.

Come see how small town theater audiences experienced the movies during the Golden Age of Hollywood.

Nate Otto is a master craftsman and owner of Rum River Restorations in Anoka where he brings vintage Player Pianos back to life for new generations to enjoy!
Nate restore d his 1916 American Fotoplayer over a 3-year period. The Fotoplayer contains a double player piano roll system, 100 organ pipes, and numerous percussion effects that allow the operator to accompany silent films with appropriate mood music to fit any scene! It’s a fascinating return to a bygone era, recalling the small town theaters that couldn’t afford a “Mighty Wurlitzer” pipe organ.
